About The Volvo EX30

Volvo EX30

A major part of the Volvo EV strategy was to start with models that don’t have any direct competition, and there is certainly nothing quite like the EX30 on the market. While there are a few other electric subcompact SUVs out there, none come close to the EX30 on power, luxury, or even looks. The EX30 also offers unbeatable versatility, with a choice of two drivetrains, two trims, and even a Cross Country configuration that brings a surprising amount of off-road prowess to a segment that usually doesn’t even offer this option for gasoline-powered models. And with this being Volvo, sophisticated Scandinavian design and advanced safety features are of course included as well. The EX30 is the perfect size for city life, but is just as at home cruising on the highway. It’s an exceptionally versatile vehicle, with something for everyone.

What the Critics Say

“The feel in the EX30 is all Volvo: Modern, thoughtful and solidly built. The drive is not a disappointment: powerful and responsive. And the price, well, that’s a delightful surprise. When we start to see the Volvo EX30 on the street this summer, expect a lot of discussion around rethinking the viability of electric cars.” – Forbes

“Guiding the EX30 through the crowded streets of Barcelona is a joy, as its 104.3-inch wheelbase and 166.7-inch overall length are tailor-made for dicing it up with the city cars and scooters that populate most of the Comital City’s traffic.” – Car & Driver

What’s New for 2026

There have been major changes to the EX30 for 2026. The first is the addition of the optional Cross Country configuration, which comes with things like a raised suspension and skid plates, making the EX30 significantly more capable off-road. The other change is a new single-motor rear-wheel drive drivetrain, which comes with better range and a lower starting price compared to the twin-motor version.

Electric Performance

In standard form, the EX30 comes with a single motor that sends power to the rear wheels. It produces 268 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. That’s an unusually high output for a subcompact, and the 0-60 time of just 5.1 seconds is the result. But if you still want more power, Volvo has the answer: a twin-motor all-wheel drive drivetrain that produces 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The 3.4-second 0-60 time that you get with this drivetrain is the quickest of any production Volvo ever. The EX30 isn’t just impressive on the road either; the available EX30 Cross Country configuration adds considerable off-road prowess. This includes equipment like unique wheels, a higher ride height, skid plates, flared fenders, and additional body cladding. Just one more way that Volvo stands out by offering what the competition doesn’t.

Volvo EX30 Interior

Versatile Interior

The interior of the EX30 is instantly recognizable as a Volvo design. The usual Scandinavian sensibilities, which emphasize high-quality materials and a clean and functional layout, are just as present here as they are on Volvo’s flagship models. Volvo put a lot of thought into making the interior of the small vehicle feel roomy, so there are touches like a centrally-located glovebox, which allows for a bit of extra legroom for the front passenger. Natural materials, like flax and wool, are also used to give the interior the kind of cozy feel that you don’t get from other manufacturers. In the middle of the dash is a large touchscreen running a Google-based operating system. But unlike some other manufacturers that use this system, Volvo doesn’t lock you out of using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. This is used to control the stereo, which is another area where the EX30 stands out, since the standard stereo is a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system that comes with 9 speakers and a 1,040-watt output.

Advanced Safety

Safety has always been a major draw for Volvo, and the EX30 is no exception. For a vehicle this advanced, it should come as no surprise that a major part of what makes the EX30 so safe is the long list of driver aids that help keep you from getting into an accident in the first place. This includes features like a 360° camera, self-parking, and a system for detecting when the driver is drowsy or distracted, which can all be found on the EX30 as either standard or available. Advanced sensors can detect threats that aren’t visible to the driver, and also make it possible for Volvo to offer Pilot Assist, a hands-on semi-autonomous driving mode that helps keep you safe by reducing driving fatigue. And since the EX30 is so perfectly sized for city use, and that involves a lot of parallel parking, standard equipment includes a door opening alert, which helps you avoid opening your door and having a cyclist or delivery van run into it. Volvo takes safety seriously even when you’re parked.
