2026 Volvo EX90 vs. Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV Comparison with Price, Specs, & Photos
Volvo has always been the more sensible and sophisticated alternative to the flashy German offerings that are more common in the luxury segment. This is especially true of the EX90, Volvo’s flagship for its line of electric vehicles. It’s one of the few three-row electric vehicles available, and in true Volvo fashion, it manages to blend luxury with everyday usability seamlessly. But it’s not completely without competitors; the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is an electric flagship model built for the same purpose. How do they compare? Let’s see.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS starts off a bit more expensive than the EX90, but selecting the Performance drivetrain and Ultra trim for the Volvo makes the pricing nearly identical, which helps us demonstrate how far your money goes with each. For starters, the EX90 is a lot more powerful, so much so that it will hit 60 mph nearly two full seconds quicker, which isn’t close at all. The less powerful standard drivetrain on the EX90 will save you some money and is still a bit quicker than the EQS, just so you know that’s also an option. Range is basically the same, but the EX90 charges significantly quicker than the EQS, and after a long day of driving, your EQS might not have fully charged by the time you need it the next day.
The EQS wins on practicality with a very respectable towing capacity. The EQS, on the other hand, offers a towing capacity that’s closer to what you would expect from a compact model. The EX90 comes with 4-zone automatic climate control, perhaps because it also has a standard third row of seats, both of which cost extra in the Mercedes. The EX90 has several important advantages in the luxury department, including features like soft-close doors, massaging front seats, and heated 2nd-row seats, all of which are optional extras on the EQS.
Winner – Volvo EX90
While the EQS does several things right, it just can’t keep up with the EX90, especially at such a bafflingly high price. From the serious performance advantage to the long list of standard equipment, the EX90 shows why Volvo is so popular with discerning customers. But something so ahead of the curve should really be experienced in person. Let Germain Volvo Cars help you pick out your EX90.
