Top 5 Spring Volvo Car Maintenance Tips

Volvo Spring Maintenance - Germain Volvo Cars North Hills

After a long winter spent hunkering down, spring cleaning and maintenance are important activities across all aspects of our lives. While this can mean very different things for homes and businesses, vehicles are much more straightforward in terms of what is needed. Spring vehicle maintenance is still very important, though, so to help you make sure you’re getting everything that needs doing done for your Volvo vehicle, we’ve put together this spring maintenance guide.

Why Does My Volvo Vehicle Need Spring Maintenance?

Winter is hard on vehicles, salt on the roads, huge temperature fluctuations, and all of the different ways that snow and ice can wreak havoc on components. Modern vehicles deal with all of these things better than those from years past, and vehicles designed in Scandinavia have certainly taken all of this into account. So most of what is needed for spring maintenance is just a series of checks, but that is still incredibly important.

Volvo Spring Maintenance Checklist

  • Check And (Possibly) Replace Engine Oil –

Changes and extremes in temperature can negatively impact oil life, and could mean that you need an oil change sooner than the schedule would usually dictate. So, checking the oil level with the dipstick is important, but also check the color. If it’s black, you probably need an oil change. There are even some extreme cases where there will be an odd odor as well.

  • Check Tire Pressure And Tread –

Winter might be hardest of all on tires. Low-traction driving can accelerate tire tread wear with a lot of skidding, and temperature fluctuations can mean your tire pressure is often vastly different from the last time you checked. Tires are important enough that you should be doing a lot of checks all winter, but you shouldn’t stop altogether once it warms up.

  • Test Your Battery –

Batteries hate any extreme in temperature, and checking the battery should also be a part of your fall checklist. A simple volt meter can tell you a lot about the health of your battery, and it’s a quick check that doesn’t require you to remove or even disconnect the battery. For electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, the high-voltage system will have its own set of built-in monitors.

  • Inspect Brakes And Brake Fluid –

Brakes are subject to all of the same hardships as the tires, including salt and wear from the unique braking conditions created by snow. Your brakes may wear at an accelerated rate during winter, and a spring check would be in order. Fluid can also become contaminated as brake system components shrink and expand in the changing temperatures.

  • Replace Cabin Air Filter and Check AC System –

This one is related to spring, but tends to be more important towards the end of the season. The cabin air filter, sometimes called a pollen filter, has to work pretty hard all through the spring, and will often need replacing by the time summer rolls around. The AC system is pretty self-explanatory. As the weather gets hot, you want to be prepared for it.
