About The Volvo EX60

The gas-powered XC60 is the best-selling Volvo model of all time, so when Volvo decided to build an electric alternative, it obviously had to be exceptionally good. Fortunately, that is, if anything, an understatement now that the EX60 has debuted. The midsize electric SUV is a technological powerhouse, even when compared to other brand-new models, and the 400 miles of maximum range is a standout in this segment. Adding to that practicality is a surprisingly spacious interior with lots of room for both people and cargo. It’s also incredibly comfortable, in proud Volvo tradition, and will be the fastest-accelerating Volvo model in North America on its debut, thanks to the 670 available horsepower. There is even a cutting-edge infotainment system paired with an incredible audiophile-grade stereo.

What the Critics Say

“By its name alone, you can draw the reasonable (and correct) conclusion that the Volvo EX60 is the electric kissin’ cousin to the company’s bestselling XC60, just as the EX90 fills that role alongside the XC90. However, there’s more than meets the eye here. The EX60 is Volvo’s most radical and forward-thinking attempt at an electric vehicle yet.” – Car & Driver

“Early impressions from our first ride in the EX60 are promising. The compact electric SUV feels quick even in midlevel form, with strong acceleration, a quiet cabin, and a comfortable ride that still allows some driver customization through adjustable steering, suspension, and regenerative braking settings. The interior looks airy and upscale without going overly minimalist.” – MotorTrend

Volvo EX60 Features

Volvo EX60

Impressive Electric Performance

The standard P6 drivetrain in the EX60 produces 369 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque with a rear-wheel drive configuration. That’s quite a bit of power for a midsize SUV already, but the P10 drivetrain adds all-wheel drive and bumps power output up to 503 horsepower and 524 lb-ft of torque. The high-performance drivetrain is called the P12, and it comes with 670 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough power for a 3.8-second 0-60 time, a number only achievable by supercars not very long ago. Handling is superb as well, as Volvo introduced a new construction technique for the EX60 that incorporates the battery pack into the structure of the vehicle itself, adding more interior space and lowering the center of gravity at the same time. Whichever drivetrain you opt for, you get industry-leading 370kW charging, which is so fast that you can add 173 miles of range in just 10 minutes at an appropriately powerful DC fast charger.

Volvo EX60 Interior

Luxury Design

The EX60 is certainly a technological evolution for Volvo, but it’s a styling evolution as well, an update to Volvo’s trademark Scandinavian design ethos. The interior is all clean lines and easy-to-use controls, mixed with high-quality materials that give all of it a premium look and feel. It also merges the aerodynamic exterior styling with the interior cohesively. There are four different interior colors available, as well as four upholstery options. Cardamom, Charcoal, and Dawn are available in Nordico, ventilated Nordico, or ventilated nappa leather, and all three come with weathered grey ash wood trim. Rye is only available with blended wool upholstery and ash wood trim that is fused with rubus to give it a dark red appearance. The infotainment touchscreen is horizontally oriented, a departure from previous Volvo norms, and the 15-inch OLED screen is also the largest so far in any Volvo vehicle.

Volvo EX60 Charging

Advanced Safety

At the heart of the advanced technology in the EX60 is a central processing unit called HuginCore. This controls all of the various systems in the vehicle, with enough power to perform 250 trillion operations per second. That much power makes all of the systems better, but it also allows for the introduction of new technologies. Volvo has rolled out its latest safety innovation with the EX60: the multi-adaptive seatbelt. This system is able to continuously adjust tension before, during, and briefly after an accident in order to maximize protection and minimize any potential risk of injury from the belt itself. HuginCore also allows for a lightning-fast infotainment operating system. Like other Volvo models, the EX60 uses a Google built-in OS, but here it also includes Google’s Gemini AI assistant. That infotainment system is connected to an incredible stereo system as well. Even the standard stereo far exceeds the specs of extra-cost systems in competing vehicles. That’s because the standard system features 21 speakers and a 1,200-watt output, all supplied by Bose. The upgraded system is even more impressive, a Bowers & Wilkins system with a 1,820-watt output, Dolby Atmos, and 28 speakers.
