The XC90 comes with a New Vehicle Limited Warranty period of four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For those who opt for the XC90 Plug-In Hybrid, there is also an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty on the high-voltage battery. And to help you keep your XC90 in good working order, Volvo also throws in the first two years or 20,000 miles of routine maintenance free of charge with the purchase price.

There are two major ratings to consider when trying to determine if a given vehicle is safe: NHTSA crash test ratings and the IIHS Top Safety Pick award. It’s important to consider both because the IIHS awards points for more than just crashworthiness; it also factors in any features that help to prevent a crash, and how well those features work. But obviously, you also need to consider how the vehicle holds up in the event, however unlikely, of a crash. Fortunately, the XC90 excels in both areas, earning both a 5-star NHTSA rating and an IIHS Top Safety Pick award.
